The Yg-1 Cbn is a Standard/ With Neck length UNCOATED coated ball nose Cbn Ball Finisher. It has a single end, and a round shank. This mill is capable of cutting Steel 51+ HRc For further size a specification data, please view the Additional Information Tab
Features and Benefits
UNCOATED
UNCOATED is as it states no coating. This tool still has many benefits over a coated tool. All coating put heat in the tool causing them to become more brittle. Long reach small diameter tools many times perform better uncoated as they dont snap as easily. Applications were coatings may leave partials in the part. J polished tools coatings tend not to adhere to showing very little benefit in tool life. Micro tooling where surface footage is never going to be achieved. Cost is not much different today but there is still a small up charge for coating.
Why CBN
CBN is the hardest material available. It is used to cut hardened steel, iron, and some high temp alloys. CBN can cut materials up to 75HRc at elevated surface foot. Solid CBN should not be used in materials less than 58HRc as cobalt leaching will occur. The tell-tale sign that CBN is too soft for the material you are cutting is pitting at depth of cut. This can not be fixed by running faster or generating more heat it is a chemical issue that occurs between softer material and CBN.
