Long reach small diameter tools many times perform better uncoated as they dont snap as easily. Applications were coatings may leave partials in the part. J polished tools coatings tend not to adhere to showing very little benefit in tool life. Micro tooling where surface footage is never going to be achieved. Cost is not much different today but there is still a small up charge for coating.
